2007 Newtown Flicks Short Film Festival is Open for Entries!

Sydney's most 'it' festival, based in the lively inner west, is back with more in 2007 - this time in a newly-renovated Newtown Theatre. And  it offers a weekend packed with short films, music and all things filmic.

The 2006 festival saw seventy-five films screened across a three day weekend in April. There was drama, comedy, animation, Lilliputian mobile phone films, documentaries. .. and everything in-between!

Across two and a half days in March, the 2007 Newtown Flicks Short Film Festival will be screening all-new submissions. The only criterion? That films must not exceed twenty minutes. Films that don't make the final cut will be part of the all new Matinee on Bray season, Newtown Flicks' monthly screenings of fresh new Australian short films.

Entries for Newtown Flicks don't need to be exclusively produced for the festival - or even unseen according to co-director Martin Kelly.

"They may have sent their work to another festival or made it more than 12 months ago. Maybe they couldn't fit an umbrella in it - it doesn't matter to us. This is a chance for film-makers to see their stuff on a big screen at Newtown Theatre!"

The 2007 Festival will also see the launch of Treehouse Flicks, a program of short films specially programmed for kids of all ages that aims to promote Australian content and identity. Filmmakers will also have the opportunity to showcase their work at a special industry screening night.

Newtown Flicks will be offering prizes in different categories; these will be announced in the weeks and months leading up to the festival.

The Festival takes place over the weekend Friday 30 March to Sunday 1 April and entries close on 2 February, 2007.
